With the 2017 F1 cars having made their on track debuts in recent weeks at Barcelona, I’m sure that many of us have been itching to experience one for ourselves – at least in a game.
Well, for those who have, our prayers have finally been answered in the form of Formula Hybrid 2017 by Race Sim Studios.
Formula Hybrid is a comprehensive mod for Assetto Corsa that aims to realistically replicate the dynamics of a 2017 F1 car. Race Sim Studios, the modding team behind this fantastic car, have essentially taken the 2017 regulations and have built a Formula One car around them. Had this been a real world project, the Formula Hybrid car would be able to run in competition with the other F1 teams at real circuits. Having shook down both variations of the car at Barcelona, I can confirm that this is indeed the ‘real deal.’ Downforce levels are shockingly accurate and the increased tyre width offers huge mechanical grip out of slow corners, resulting in lap times falling by over three seconds, as they have in real life. The aesthetic of the car has also been designed to match that of a 2017 F1 car, albeit via Race Sim Studios’ own interpretation.
This project has got me incredibly excited, and I believe that it has a lot to offer.
I have attatched several images below, and Westyy has provided a hotlap video. He set a 1:45.2, with room enough for a comfortable three seconds of further improvements.
